Motivation
My aim is to design functional objects for batch and mass production that engage the user and have a sense of poetry. The emphasis is on light and structure, geometric and archetypal forms. I explore materials and production methods to create products for both domestic and commercial markets. I am particularly concerned with designing for urban living, where space is at a real premium.
My work has developed through an interest in the emotional bonds we form with our belongings. Certain objects become important in our lives, their loss creating feelings that go beyond the inconvenience of having to replace them. A product’s ability to engender an emotional response can build brand loyalty, but it is also extremely important in the context of eco-awareness as people are less likely to dispose of treasured possessions.
