about I established Charlotte Tangye Design in 2006 to work on self initiated projects, commissions, and freelance design. Previous clients have included Heal's, Timberland and the Buxton Civic Association. My aim is to design functional pieces with an element of poetry, and I explore materials and production methods to create products for both domestic and commercial markets. Recent work has developed from the question: "What makes a place, or type of place, distinctive and how can this be communicated to others through designed objects?" My large-scale line drawings are inspired by the 19th Century tradition of panoramic painting, positioning the viewer at the centre of the work to best experience the view. Rather than exactly replicating nature, however, mine are composite images that aim to capture a sense of place, rather than a true 360° view from a single location. I utilise digital technologies to capture, collate, edit, and produce my designs. Some of my products are digitally manufactured, others by more traditional methods. All of my work is made in England.
